Last time, I wrote quite a long post and it was a little "I'm going to tell you what to do" and now I feel slightly bad about that. So let me explain my reasoning. I don't want to criticize or complain or make things worse. I want all of us to live up to our potential. It was an exhortation to start something great, but it certainly came off like a criticism of what I'm sure are really noble efforts.
Here's what I know, and I'll leave you be for the day. For the longest time, I had a severe amount of back/chest pain. I was seeing a chiropractor once a week and would've gone more had I had the money.
At the same time, I was playing a lot of video games. I kept thinking about how I wish I had more time in the day to write, but I really had to beat this one level. I'd just get to my writing later.
And I kept going back to the chiropractor.
For a good part of 2013, I've been getting up before work to write. And I mean early. Some mornings, it's been 5:00am. I believe I've been to the chiropractor once in January.
And, at the same time, I'm on my second feature length screenplay of the year.
Don't ask me how it works on a molecular level, but I can tell you that doing work that matters to me is a big part of my physical health, what relative amounts I have, at least.
Nothing short of actual writing would have worked on me.
That's all I meant. Hopefully it helps you.
