Every year I try to set myself some goals for the next 365 days. You've heard about a few of them if you've been following along here, like this one, for example. This year, I'm setting a goal that's going to be an awful lot harder to quantify, but could be a big step forward for me if I can accomplish it. I'm going to finish things.
The past few years, it's been easy to measure progress on my goals. Two years ago, it was writing every single day. I knew I made this by, well, writing every single day. Last year, it was averaging one short film script a week for the year. I ended up beating the average by a few, so that's even better.
This year, well, how do I count that?
The reason I'm doing this is because in order to make goals like the last two years, longer projects have taken the backseat. I know now I can tell a short story. It's time to work on telling the longer ones.
Which, if you think about it, is a pretty great way to be thinking about life in general. Short stories are easy. Immediate gratification. Longer stories take work. This year, I'm going to put in that work and see what it gets me.
What do you hope to accomplish in the coming days?
