I've been at the new job for a month and a half now and I think I'm starting to settle in. When I started work, there was already a plan in place to rearrange offices and I came in right as it was all beginning. In the meantime, I shared an office for a few days with a friend and then I stayed in that office until it was time to move. Well, I finally moved from that office to what will be my office permanently and it feels good.
I took some of my stuff from home to put on the desk. I picked where all the furniture went. It's a good feeling.
There's something to be said for getting to feel settled where you are. You feel more productive because you feel more at home.
It's true for an artist too. It takes a certain kind of skill to feel "at home" in a coffee shop or a hotel room, if you're the traveling kind.
Of course, location is no excuse for just not getting the work done. There really aren't many good excuses for that.
